Narrating Responsibility: Interdisciplinary Workshop

How do the concerns of non-human actors reach us? And if we are always already entangled in shared
materialities, what does that do to the concepts of care and responsibility? This workshop explores how new materialisms and other relational, de-anthropocentric approaches challenge conventional understandings of these terms, how responsibility may be reconceptualised, and how narratives can shape new ethical frameworks in this context. It brings together disciplines and scholars who share an interest in narratives and their shaping of our connections with human and more-than-human others. Together, we want to think imaginatively, creatively, and speculatively about responsibility and care. Our aim is to discuss both the ‚new narratives‘ of theory as well as narrativity in the narrower sense, especially regarding its possible role for a new conception of responsibility.
