Who wrote the Fornaldarsögur? And who was interested in writing these texts down, thus keeping them for future generations? In this case study of the Hrafnistumannasögur “Vikings, Half-Trolls and Saga-Authors“ is tracking down the Medieval Icelandic descendants of the Norwegian Hrafnistumenn by looking at their family background, education, literary activity and contemporaries. It connects the saga heroes with the members of the Medieval Icelandic elite of chieftains, authors, clerics and bishops. The Hrafnistumenn`s pronounced troll-heritage makes it even more exciting to investigate the authorship of these sagas in the heyday of parchment manuscripts in Iceland.
